    Tanamera Floral Water

    Saturday, April 23, 2011

The term “Floral water” is used to describe the condensate water that remains after the extraction of an essential oil by water or steam distillation. When essential oils are produced this way, not all of the aromatic and healing principles held within the plant are actually captured in the essential oil.

Certain components are hydrophilic, which means they dissolve into water, and this produces what is variously known as a floral water, hydrosol or water distillates. The resulting naturally fragrant water contains the very essence of everything that was contained within the plant when it was still alive and growing. Even though the term floral water indicates that the sources are flowers, these miracle waters can be produced from herbs, needles, leaves, woods, barks and seeds.

Today, many 'flower waters' are made from synthetic compounds that smell quite pretty but posses absolutely no healing properties! In fact, quite the opposite - they can cause skin irritation.

Another common way to produce “Floral water” is by adding essential oils or absolutes to water by using alcohol or some other type of dispersant or solvent. This may appear to be perfectly acceptable, since the finished product contains essential oil and has a pleasant fragrance similar to natural floral water. However, this type of reconstituted product lacks the wealth of vital healing properties present in true floral water.

Remember, many of the plant constituents were dissolved into the water whilst extracting the oil, so they were never present in the essential oil in the first place! Therefore adding an essential oil to water will never create a product with the same range of healing benefits as true floral water. There is simply no substitute for a true floral water, so don't let anybody try and fool you.

Some highly recommended uses of floral water

Floral waters are highly versatile and can be used for personal care and around the house. These are some examples you might want to know:

    Skincare
    • Rose, Neroli (Orange Blossom) and Lavender floral water are great for hydrating dry skin and cooling hot and sensitized skin. If you have been out in the sun too long and got burned, Lavender floral water is soothing and comforting as well as healing.

    • Regular use of certain floral water can help diminish puffy and dark circles under the eyes. . Just soak two cotton wool pads with the Rose or Lavender floral water and cover each eye for around 10 minutes for an immediate and dramatic reduction in puffiness.

    • Use Floral water to mix your powdered scrubs and mask instead of tap water that may contain potentially hazardous chemicals

    Babycare
    • Calm a restless baby by adding a few tablespoons of Lavender floral into their bathwater. This can be especially beneficial if your baby is suffering from nappy rash or eczema, because the soothing properties of the floral water helps calm the irritation and speed up the healing process.

    • A few sprays onto a tissue makes a handy all natural wet-wipe for all sorts of applications including babies and grubby children. Floral water is quite safe to use on young children, and since they only contain a small amount of essential oil they do not need diluting much further.
    Homecare
    • Floral water such as Rose or Neroli can be added to the final rinse water in your washing cycle as well as used as a fragrant linen spray whilst ironing since they smell much nicer than their synthetic counterparts.

    • Around the house floral waters are great to freshen the air instead of using aerosols, which of course are harmful to the environment.

    • Everybody needs a good sleep especially at nights. This is important to be able to recharge and relax the body for the next day’s activities. If you want something more to add to a good nights sleep, think about using Floral water as an aromatherapy pillow spray.

This is now basically being used to make a person sleep well and make them calm to sleep when they have difficulty in sleeping. It is a relatively safe and convenient way to sleep well. Aroma has something to do with smell. So, this is a therapy for sleep and it is just good to remember what aroma induces sleep effectively to be used on the pillow.

Hibiscus is the name given to more than 250 species of herbs, shrubs, and trees of the mallow or Malvaceae family. The most commonly used species of hibiscus for medicinal purposes are Hibiscus sabdariffa, commonly known as the roselle; Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, also called China rose and common hibiscus; and Hibiscus syriacus, known as the Rose of Sharon.

These three shrubs are native to tropical climates, but are now grown around the world. Hibiscus is renowned for its beauty as well as its medicinal uses, and gardeners cultivate the plant for its showy flowers.

Below are the scientific and traditional properties of the hibiscus flower:

    • It is used for various allergic eczemas and other skin conditions.

    • It has possibilities due to the I-hydroxy-acids, anthocyanocides and mucilage contained, as the I-hydroxy-acids act on the horny layer of the skin, to reduce the cohesion between the corneocytes, which affects the thickness of the layer and increases skin moisture. This improves skin flexibility and elasticity, as well as creates higher moisture levels in the skin.

    • The anthocyanocides again have astringent, anti-inflammatory, and free radical scavenging, as well as enzyme inhibition properties – and is especially useful to inhibit elastase and hyaluronidase.

    • Finally, the high mucilage content enhances the retention of the skin’s hydric content.

    • This makes the hibiscus flower useful against the effects of aging, due to the power of the I-hydroxy-acids, together with the moisturizing ability of the mucilage’s in combination with the astringent, anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenger properties of the anthocyanocides.

    Roselle

More than three centuries ago the Roselle plant (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) was introduced into Malaysia from India. This pretty plant with dark red flowers, and unique healing powers, very quickly adapted to the fertile soil and tropical climate, and now grows wild throughout the country.

The red Roselle flower has high vitamin content, containing vitamin C, fruit acids, calcium, iron, potassium as well as antosianin, and has long been used in traditional medicine and local delicacies. It is known to benefit the kidney system, lower blood-sugar levels, and have diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties. It forms natural collagen and assists in vitamin absorption thus improving complexion, and assisting with anti-aging.

Hibiscus is a natural emollient, used for softening or healing the skin. The leaves and flowers of the roselle are used all around the world for their emollient qualities. When the leaves are heated, they can be placed on cracked feet or on boils and ulcers to promote healing. Since the herb is a cooling herb, when applied externally it cools the surface of the skin by increasing blood flow to the epidermis and dilating the pores of the skin.

A lotion made from a decoction of hibiscus leaves can be used to soothe hemorrhoids, sunburn, open sores, and wounds.

Our roselle are dried using a high tech Malaysian dehydration process to maintain high concentration of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a natural whitening agent and will also help skin to be supple and moisturized. Tanamera Carrier Oil

Looking for a carrier oil that is light and non greasy yet able to moisturize and leave a soft silky feel to the skin? Tanamera carrier oil is all that and more.

This custom blend of five cold-pressed plant oils (Grape seed, Sunflower, Jojoba, Wheat germ and COCOMUNE® Premium Virgin Coconut oil) has a light feel, smooth glide, and terrific workability. Excellent for all massage modalities from Swedish to Deep Tissue.

Tanamera carrier oil is combined with emollients naturally derived from coconut and palm kernel oil to allow these oils to magically rinse off with water. Tanamera carrier oil is also preservative and fragrance free making it a perfectly natural base for your favorite essential oils.

    Grape Seed Oil
Grape seed oil has found a wide range of applications in the cosmetic industry for its emollient property. It has an astringent property, i.e. it can tighten the skin, and so can be used in toning the skin. Besides this, it can also be used in treating acne and many other skin problems. Grape seed oil contains linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid, which is an essential component of the cell membrane.

It provides nourishment to the skin and aids in skin repair. It is an important ingredient in many hair care products, lip balms, creams and lotions. It protects the skin from the sun and is used in sunscreen lotions. Besides, grape seed oil has antiseptic and moisturizing properties and is particularly effective for the skin around the eyes. Due to its lightness, the skin easily absorbs grape seed oil.

    Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil, extracted from sunflower seeds, is very nourishing and is also a wonderful moisturizer. Sunflower oil contains naturally occurring Vitamin A and E. Vitamin A, also known as retinol, provides many health benefits, as does vitamin E. Both vitamins neutralize free radicals. Vitamin E plays a significant role in the reduction of asthma symptoms, and arthritis, both of which are conditions affected by free radicals and inflammation. Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory effects that help these two conditions as a result.

Sunflower oil is recommended for most skin types, from normal to oily. A non-greasy, protective layer is formed on the skin when Sunflower oil is used, providing a smooth and luxurious texture every time. Blending Aromatherapy Essential Oils with Sunflower Oil is a great way to maximize the health benefits these oils provide.

Sunflower oil has been used as an ingredient in cosmetic products for years. One of its main benefits as a skin care solution is its ability to help the skin retain moisture. Millions of people either apply it directly onto their skin, or use cosmetic products that contain sunflower oil, to avoid excess dryness.

    Jojoba Oil
This natural oil is light golden in color and is odorless. Jojoba oil does not have any toxic effect and rarely causes allergic reactions. It has a rich content of vitamin E that helps in preventing wrinkles on the skin. It acts as a natural antioxidant too. It is effective in bringing down skin inflammations and is capable of killing some skin bacteria. Jojoba oil provides the required moisture to the skin without blocking the skin pores.

Jojoba oil is so widely used for skin and hair care because its chemical constituents have a striking similarity with human sebum, the oily substance responsible for giving a smooth effect to our skin and hair.

Jojoba oil is a good moisturizer for all types of skins, as it is capable of balancing the sebum present in the skin. Thus, in oily or combination skins it controls the production of oily matter and on dry skin it gives the required moisturizing effect. Even if you have a skin that shows skin eruptions very easily, you can use jojoba oil on it, as it is hypoallergenic in nature.

    Wheat Germ Oil
Wheat germ oil is an unrefined oil that is obtained from the germ of the wheat kernel. It is the richest source of Vitamin E than any other vegetable oil. It also has a high content of Vitamin A and Vitamin D. It is rich in protein and lecithin. It is very popular for external application due to its beneficial effects on the skin and hence is increasingly finding place in the manufacture of skin care products. Other benefits of wheat germ oil include its antioxidant properties and its effect in strengthening the immune system and restoring overall health.

Wheat germ oil benefits include curing skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. It works effectively to heal burns and skin ulcers. As an external application it is very helpful for dry skin. Wheat germ oil is beneficial for the general health of the skin as it improves circulation of blood in the skin when used externally. It also helps the skin cells that may have been damaged due to the scorching heat of the sun. It also fights off conditions like dermatitis and reduces scarring.

Wheat germ oil is known for its antioxidant properties. Hence it helps in preventing the skin from bearing the signs of aging. It is probably this reason that it is added to other carrier oils.

    COCOMUNE® Premium Virgin Coconut Oil
We know that coconut oil is good for health and there are a few other things we know very well about coconut oil. They are:

»It is composed of predominantly saturated fatty acids.
»It is rich in Medium Chain Fatty Acids.
»Being rich in saturated fatty acids, it is highly stable.

The COCOMUNE® Premium Virgin Coconut oil goes through a fractionation process where by the coconut oil from which almost all the long chain triglycerides are removed, thus leaving mainly the Medium Chain Fatty Acids and making it absolutely saturated oil. This saturation gives it a very-very long shelf life and stability. COCOMUNE® Premium Virgin Coconut Oil is produced using a patented cold extraction and multi-step fractionation process. The content of beneficial active ingredients (Caprylic and Capric organic compounds) is up to 99.9%. It's free of preservatives and harmful Tran's fatty acids.
